PreSonus · Pro · USB · From 2015
PreSonus launched the Studio 192 in 2015 as a one-rack-space hub for a project studio, and Sound On Sound reviewed it in March 2016. It connects over USB 3.0, and the manual says it works on USB 2.0 ports too. There are eight XMAX preamps, two combo inputs on the front with instrument inputs and six on the back, all set from one knob and a red LED display, with phantom power switchable per channel. Onboard DSP runs Studio One's Fat Channel on 16 inputs plus reverb and delay for monitor mixes, and the front adds a talkback mic, Dim and Mono. Two ADAT ports, S/PDIF and BNC word clock finish it off. PreSonus no longer sells it new, but the driver is current. Buy one with its 12 V supply.
In the photos
It's a silver one-rack-space unit with STUDIO 192 and 26x32 USB 3.0 printed at the left, a red LED display with one gain knob and arrow buttons in place of separate gain pots, and Talk, Dim/Mute and Mono buttons. On the back is a blue USB 3.0 Type-B socket marked SS. The Studio 192 Mobile is a smaller half-rack sibling.
Mac and Windows
On a Mac it's class compliant and needs no driver, and on Windows it uses the Universal Control ASIO driver. PreSonus's macOS 27 compatibility page (October 2026) lists the Studio 192 under Fender Universal Control 5.1.1, which supports macOS 13.7.8 or later, Windows 10 22H2 and Windows 11 24H2, though the 5.1 release notes leave it off their Studio-series line. It works with an iPad class compliant, but its mixer sends everything to outputs 1/2 there unless you bypass it from a computer first.
Power, cables and licences
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing power supply or a licence that won’t transfer should come off the price.
We didn't find a widely reported hardware fault. The usual problems on used ones are a missing 12 V supply and old firmware, and PreSonus notes that on some Macs the meters flicker and the display shows EE for about 30 seconds at power-on, which it calls harmless.
Buying your first one? How to pick a first used interface covers inputs, mic gain and drivers, and the power supply guide covers which ones need their adapter.
Buying guide
There's one Studio 192 for sale on eBay US today, so its $489 delivered isn't a market read, and we can't pick it. It's a used unit shipping from Canada at $399 plus $90 shipping, from a seller with zero feedback, so pay only through eBay checkout. The photo shows a full-width silver rack unit on its retail box, which fits the Studio 192 rather than the half-rack Mobile, but the title doesn't mention the 12 V supply it needs, so ask to see it in the photos. Any Studio One licence was the first owner's and Fender says it can't be transferred, while PreSonus's October 2026 macOS 27 page still lists the 192 as supported.
