PreSonus started in 1995 in Jim Odom's garage in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Odom and Brian Smith, both LSU electrical engineering graduates, built a MIDI-controlled digital processor first, then the DigiMax preamp in 2000 and a run of FireWire interfaces. The AudioBox USB arrived in 2008, and in 2009 PreSonus launched its Studio One DAW, which came with every interface it made for years. The USB Studio range started with the rack-mount Studio 192 in 2015, and the black USB-C c-series followed around 2018 and 2019, built around PreSonus's XMAX preamps. Fender agreed to merge with PreSonus in November 2021. In 2026 Studio One became Fender Studio Pro and Universal Control became Fender Universal Control, and the driver still covers these interfaces on current Macs and PCs. The manuals are pure Louisiana, too. Each one ends with a recipe, from red beans and rice to chicken and andouille gumbo.
