UA launched the Apollo Solo pair in August 2020. The Thunderbolt Solo replaced the Arrow, and the Solo USB brought the same box to Windows PCs without Thunderbolt. It's the smallest Apollo, with two Unison mic preamps, a front instrument input that also runs Unison amp models, one pair of monitor outputs and a headphone jack. Inside is a single SHARC DSP, so you can track through a couple of UAD preamp or amp models with near-zero latency, then mix with native plug-ins. USB 3 can't power it the way Thunderbolt 3 powers the other Solo, so it needs its own 12 V supply. It's Windows only, which is the first thing to rule on. If your PC has no Thunderbolt and you want the Apollo way of tracking for one or two sources, this is the one to hunt, ideally with its power supply.

How to tell it apart
It has the same size and top-panel layout as the Thunderbolt Apollo Solo, so turn to the rear photo. The USB version has a USB-C port plus a round DC power socket, while the Thunderbolt Solo is bus powered and has no power socket at all. The older black Arrow is the Thunderbolt Solo's predecessor.
Mac and Windows
Drivers and support
UA lists the USB Apollos as Windows only, needing 64-bit Windows 10 or Windows 11 on a PC with a built-in USB 3 or USB 4 port. There's no macOS driver and no support for Windows on ARM. Current UAD software still supports it (it needs v9.12.2 or later), and UA recommends an Intel USB host controller, warning that some earlier AMD AM4 USB controllers have limited compatibility.
The original UA power supply, rated 12 V DC, 1.6 A, centre positive, with a 5.5 × 2.1 mm barrel that twists to lock. UA says any stand-in must match all of that exactly.
A USB 3 SuperSpeed cable (USB-C to USB-C, or USB-A to USB-C, 2 m or shorter). None came in the box new, and a USB 2 cable won't work.
Register it as used and UA adds its starter set of legacy plug-ins to your account (1176LN, 1176SE, LA-2A, Pultec EQP-1A and Pultec-Pro, UA 610-B, Marshall Plexi Classic, Ampeg SVT-VR Classic, RealVerb Pro and more).
The seller's own UAD plug-ins come with it only if they submit UA's transfer form with plug-ins included. Heritage Edition plug-ins don't pass to a second owner otherwise.
UA's warranty covers the original owner only, so a used unit has none.
Check the listing photos against this list, and ask the seller about anything you can’t see. A missing power supply or a licence that won’t transfer should come off the price.
What to check
UA's known-issue notes for its USB Apollos cover the unit not being recognised when it powers up at the same moment as the PC (switch it on again after Windows starts) and DAWs freezing at 2048-sample buffers. The power plug locks with a twist, and UA says a plug that isn't locked can cause intermittent power loss.
01Your computer: Check you're on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 with a USB 3 port. A Mac can't run it at all.
02Power supply: Look for the UA supply in the photos and read its label. It should say 12 V DC, 1.6 A, centre positive.
03Model check: Ask for a photo of the rear panel. A USB-C port next to a DC power socket means Solo USB.
04Gain and phantom: Ask for a short video turning the gain on each input and switching 48 V on. Levels should move smoothly with no crackle, and a condenser mic should work.
05Licence transfer: Ask whether the seller is passing on their plug-ins and, if so, to submit UA's transfer form with plug-ins included. Without it you still get UA's starter bundle.
06Registration: On arrival, register it as used on UA's site and click Authorize Plug-Ins in UAD Meter & Control Panel. The device should show Status OK.
07Packing: Ask how it will be packed. Good is a box with padding around the knob and the USB-C port.
We'd buy the open-box Heritage Edition at $585 delivered from a 100% seller, since its photo shows it boxed with the power supply. There are at least 20 for sale and most ask $500–700 delivered, but dealers selling new Heritage Editions at $699 with free shipping set the top of that band, while used units ask about $306–658. It's Windows only, needing 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a USB 3 port, with no Mac driver at all, and it can't run on bus power, so pick one with UA's 12 V, 1.6 A locking supply or budget for the matching one. Ask for the rear photo, where a USB-C port next to a round power socket means Solo USB, since the Thunderbolt Solo has no power socket. Heritage plug-ins on a used or open-box unit move only if the seller does UA's transfer, UA's warranty covers the original owner only, and the new Japan listing with $450 shipping asks about twice the median.

$306.13est. delivered
The lowest price here, an auction at $306 delivered with no bids yet, so it will climb. The title names no power supply and the photo shows only the front, so ask for the rear panel and the supply.
An open-box Heritage Edition at $585 delivered, $114 under the dealers' new price, from a 100% seller, and the photo shows it boxed with the power supply. Heritage plug-ins aren't guaranteed on an open-box unit, so get what transfers confirmed in writing.
Universal Audio Apollo Solo USB Heritage Edition USB-C Interface (Open Box)
Titled tested and sold with the box and the power supply, so nothing's missing before first use. It ships from Japan, so ask for a photo of the supply's label, since Japan units can come with a 100 V one.
